Sega was founded in 1940 as Standard Games in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1951, the company moved to Tokyo, Japan and in 1952 was renamed Service Games. In 1965 Service Games merged with Rosen Enterprises and became Sega Enterprises. They also developed home video game systems until 2002.

They have released several retro consoles that play preloaded games from their past consoles.
